J'ai oublié 1 paragraphe tantot concernant le replacement system de la 29e:
"The replacement system, as anyone who has ever passed through it will testify, was unbelievably slow. Day after day, week after week, replacements vegetated in the irritating sluggishness of the "repple depples", long chow lines, and chafed by commands from rear echelon noncoms and officers, who never had been at the front and probably never would be there.
Blue-and-gray soldiers en route to the division from the hospitals were routed through the replacement system. For some of these men it was too much to take, and drawn by the magnetism of the military family (the company) they took off and Hitch-hiked back to the tront and rejoined their companies without benefit of orders."
this of course was highly irregular and was absence without leave. General Gerhardt let it be known that he would never allow these men to be court-martialed when they returned to their unit at the front. To iron out these irregularities members, the Adjutant General's section made trips back to the replacement depots, to pick up service records of the returned men and to have orders issued "covering" their return. "
Il y'a que la fin du paragraphe 3 que je ne comprends pas trop bien.
